Marketing and Advertising 2.0

November 16, 2011

Marketing has been known as the process used to determine what products or services may be of interest to customers, and the strategy to use in sales, communications and business development, where as Advertising is a form of communication used to persuade an audience (viewers, readers or listeners) to take some action with respect to products, ideas, or services. Both of these branches of business focus on drawing in consumers in a creative way to increase their customer pool. In recent years, marketing and advertising companies have been using the unique methods and ideas of web 2.0 to spread their products to the public. Marketing and advertising 2.0 methods are very simple, yet, have been proven to be very effective.

One method of marketing 2.0 is refered to as Viral Marketing. Viral Marketing describes any strategy that encourages individuals to pass on a marketing message to others, creating the potential for exponential growth for the messages exposure and influence. Like viruses, such strategies take advantage of rapid multiplication to explode the message to thousands, even millions of people in a short period of time. Off the Internet, viral marketing has been referred to as “word-of-mouth,” “creating a buzz,” “leveraging the media,” or  “network marketing.” But on the Internet  it’s called “viral marketing.” If you think about it, a simple advertisement about coca cola could be sent to thousands of people with a click of a button on Facebook. If a friend of one of these people who was sent the message looks at their wall, they too will see the advertisement. This very simple method allows millions of people to view a message in a rapid pace which makes other advertising techniques seem inefficient.

Viral marketing is only one of many marketing and advertising 2.0 methods being used today to enhance numerous companies image and product awareness. Marketing your business using Web 2.0 methods takes focus. You need to focus on your goals on how to plan out your strategy to properly promote your business so that it achieves the most exposure on the internet. Additionally, createing  videos is only getting more popular on the internet and if you put out more videos, it will only lead to higher rankings to your blog.
